Completed in 1885 this railway line is still a testimony of great railway engineering and doubtless the most remarkable train journey in Brazil. On the way you will have fantastic views of the lush Serra do Mar, covered by Atlantic Rainforest. Stop in Morretes for a quick visit of this charming colonial town and typical Barreado lunch. Then continue to Ilha do Mel, a car-free picturesque island in Paranaguá bay. Outside summer holidays this is a great place to unwind, while enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

Pick-up from Curitiba hotel at 07:00. You will be transferred to the railway station for the train journey from Curitiba to Morretes. After several tunnels, bridges and viaducts with vertical drops you will alight around 11:30 am at Morretes, one of the oldest colonial towns in Parana.
After a visit to the historical centre, you will have a typical lunch. In the afternoon continue by road to Pontal do Sul to catch the regular boat to Ilha do Mel (30 min by boat).
Ilha do Mel (Honey Island) is a very picturesque beach resort located in the southern entrance to the Bay of Paranaguá. The whole island is car-free, with the northern part being a nature reserve, closed to the public. Only sandy trails link the small villages and the different beaches: walking and hiking is the order of the day here.
The Atlantic-facing beaches are paradise for surfers that come here year around for the best waves in Paraná. The bay facing ones are more secluded and have warmer waters, being ideal for swimming.
On arrival, you will be taken to your local guesthouse. At the end of the afternoon, we suggest you take a light walk to the lighthouse (Farol das Conchas), a local institution for sunset views. From here you can see the whole island, the bay and the Serra do Mar Mountains in the background.
